In a nutshell

If you’re in a supervisory role on site, you’ll need to be able to help plan and organise health and safety on site.

This course covers all relevant legislation and other aspects which affect safe working in the building and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures, and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforces.

Course content

This essential 2-day course covers:

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Specific site challenges for supervisors.
  • Effective Toolbox Talks.
  • Supervision of occupational health.
  • Behavioural safety.

You’ll be assessed on your participation throughout the course, including group tasks and a 25-question exam with multiple choice questions and short written answers.

Full attendance of the 2 days is mandatory.

On successful completion, you’ll receive a certificate valid for 5 years.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however candidates should hold, or be about to hold, the role of a site supervisor. Previous health and safety knowledge will be an advantage.

Those without previous training in health and safety are recommended to complete the Site Safety Plus Health & Safety Awareness course prior to undertaking the Supervision course.

Candidates must be competent in written and spoken English necessary for operating efficiently at site supervisory level.

PLA is an initiative from the Welsh Government which offers people the chance to access free, part-time courses with flexible and convenient learning that fits around their existing lifestyle (subject to eligibility).
